Wells Fargo & Company is a bank holding company. The Company is a diversified financial services company. It has three operating segments: Community Banking, Wholesale Banking, and Wealth and Investment Management. The Company offers its services under three categories: personal, small business and commercial. It provides retail, commercial and corporate banking services through banking locations and offices, the Internet and other distribution channels to individuals, businesses and institutions in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and in other countries. It provides other financial services through its subsidiaries engaged in various businesses, including wholesale banking, mortgage banking, consumer finance, equipment leasing, agricultural finance, commercial finance, securities brokerage and investment banking, computer and data processing services, investment advisory services, mortgage-backed securities servicing and venture capital investment.


Wells Fargo & Company is a US banking company created by the founders of the famous American Express in 1852. In subsequent years, the campaign successfully developed and expanded through the takeover of banks and financial corporations, but in 1998 it was itself absorbed by the Norwest corporation. However, it continued to operate under the original name, due to its greater fame and recognition.

Wells Fargo & Company now provides banking services, insurance and asset management in the United States and abroad.

The company is one of the Big Four leading banks in the United States after JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America and Citigroup. It ranks 41st on the Fortune 500 list.

Wells Fargo went public in October 1978. Its IPO listed its shares on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker WFC. About 70% of all securities are owned by large institutions. The leading ones are Berkshire Hathaway, The Vanguard Group, BlackRock, State Street and a number of others.

WFC stock is also a component of the S&P 500.
