The production company behind the sci-fi movie “Blade Runner 2049” is suing Elon Musk and Tesla Inc. for copyright infringement, claiming an image from the movie was improperly used to promote Tesla’s futuristic robotaxi prototype.
In lawsuit filed Monday in Pasadena, Calif., Alcon Entertainment said Tesla TSLA had requested permission to use a still image from the movie to promote its Cybercab robotaxi, which was unveiled at an Oct. 10 event. The fully autonomous vehicle, which has no steering wheel and sports butterfly-wing doors, will have a price tag of less than $30,000, Musk said. The Tesla chief executive hopes to have the cars on roads by 2027.
